On a bright morning, the sound of kids playing at the beach rang out crisp and clear. A little girl with blonde hair in two braids, her wide sweet smile lighting up, ran around in small bursts, flanked by her parents.
The joy of that little family shone through, almost like it was playing in slow motion. Ironically, those happy moments always seem to slip by faster than our minds can register.
And that held true for Agent Praxis and his little family…
The girl paused her play and climbed onto her dad’s lap, asking with that innocent curiosity, as if testing him, “Dad, Dad! Do you know what I want to be when I grow up?”. Agent Praxis gave a small smile and tossed the question back, “Hmm, what? Tell me”.
With a serious yet adorable expression, the girl replied, “I…want…to…be…like you. A hero!!!”. Agent Praxis was speechless, touched to the core. Suddenly, his wife with long brown hair hugged him from behind, “She can do it! She’s Dad’s daughter, after all,” and planted a kiss on his cheek.
They carried on with lively chatter, their voices blending into the beach’s hum. But their expressions said it all. The best holiday Agent Praxis had ever experienced.
Not long after, a boy’s scream sliced through the air like a bolt from afar. Agent Praxis’ gaze snapped to the raging beach waves. He spotted the boy’s hand flailing, grasping at the air to avoid drowning.
Agent Praxis bolted into a sprint to save him without a second thought. His experiences working for an organization that sometimes demanded physical skills gave him the confidence to act fast.
He swam over and hauled the kid out of the water. Strangely, no one on the beach seemed to notice or even care. And once safe, the boy’s face showed no tears or shock.
He just stood there and said, “Thank you,,,Agent Praxis”. Agent Praxis froze, stunned to hear his name called. “Wha…how do you know my name?”, he asked, bewildered.
