Suddenly, She-Hulk, now in her human form as Jen, found herself in the driver’s seat of a moving car. Beside her, Bruce Banner sat with a faint smile, seemingly listening to her chatter. His right arm, scarred from wielding the Infinity Gauntlet (see Avengers: Endgame), was still wrapped in a dark blue sling.
This was the moment just before the accident that changed her life. Jen swerved the wheel to avoid a spaceship that materialized out of nowhere and blocking their path. The car veered off the road, then tumbling down a cliff. Bruce was injured, blood trickling from his head.
Jen struggled to save her cousin, dragging him from the wreckage. In the process, Bruce’s blood accidentally spilled onto her arm, transforming her into She-Hulk, the origin story of the green giantess that forever altered Jen’s destiny.
But this time, everything was different. The sudden appearance of the spaceship didn’t force Jen to swerve instinctively. Instead, she slammed the brakes with precision, then reversed as far as possible. Strangely, the spaceship didn’t pursue them. No crash occurred. No Hulk DNA scattered.
From that day, her life flowed normally as a lawyer at a small firm. Each morning, she gazed into the mirror, offering a thin smile as she faced a day free from superhero chaos. One day, her expression flickered. A distant “dong” echoed in her mind, or maybe it was just a mild migraine. This life felt peaceful… so peaceful.
Days turned to weeks. At her law firm, Jen met a blind lawyer from New York, Matthew “Matt” Murdock. No! Not the Daredevil, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, in his red-and-gold suit. This time, he was just a clever lawyer with a warm smile. Everything was different.
Sparks of love ignited slowly, starting from coffee breaks chatters, and culminating in a proposal under the evening’s glow. Jen shed tears of joy, her life now complete.
Their wedding was modest. It was held in a church filled with the scent of flowers. Guests were limited to family and close friends. Foggy Nelson, who should have been dead (see Daredevil: Born Again Season 1), beamed with happiness as best man. While Karen Page stood beside him, smiling softly, sharing in Matt’s joy.
Years passed, and Jen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The infant’s cries now filled the silent nights. One evening, as Jen sat quietly in the kitchen, the “dong” returned, louder this time, freezing her in place with a furrowed brow. She brushed it off, distracted by a happiness that felt… alien. Or perhaps it was just her first time experiencing a domestic life.
One afternoon, Jen stood in the living room, breaking the fourth wall as was her habit. “You’re watching, right?” she said toward the “camera.” But this time, Matt approached, puzzled. “What are you doing, Jen?” His worried tone cut through her. From the corner of her eye, she saw herself, like a madwoman talking to no one.
Unbeknownst to her, she found herself slumped on a hospital bed, surrounded by dull white walls and the sharp smell of antiseptic. Family and friends visited, yet… she felt estranged from them. “Why am I in a hospital? What’s really happening?” she muttered, confused.
