This paper was written as part of a course assignment for educational management research, based on lecture notes and summaries of course material. The author attempts to explain the meaning, function, advantages, and other types of studies related to research in educational management. Through this writing, it is hoped that a more comprehensive understanding of the role of research will emerge, not only as a theoretical basis but also as a practical tool in strategic decision-making in the world of education. Hopefully, this paper can be useful for the author and readers as a reference, discussion material, and additional insight to support the academic process and the development of science.

Research in educational management is a scientific activity that aims to uncover answers to specific questions or current issues, not only for the sake of theoretical development, but also as an instrument of application. Unlike observation, which is only one method of gathering information, research encompasses a series of systematic, logical, and empirical scientific activities, so that it is carried out through targeted stages, following a logical line of thinking, and relying on factual data from experience. Thus, research plays an important role in accurately identifying problems and provides a strong basis for making the right decisions in the field of educational management.

Research in educational management has various complementary functions. Theoretically, research plays a role in discovering new concepts while refining existing theoretical frameworks. From a practical standpoint, research provides alternative solutions to concrete challenges faced by educational institutions in their operational activities. Meanwhile, from a policy perspective, research is an important foundation for ensuring that policies are not based on assumptions and can minimize the risk of failure. In addition, research also has an academic function, namely as a medium for developing scientific capabilities, training analytical thinking, and deepening understanding of scientific procedures.

Research in educational management provides objective and measurable data that can be used as a basis for evaluating the success of policies, learning strategies, and management systems in educational institutions. Through research, bias in decision-making can be reduced because decisions are based on valid information, thereby minimizing the possibility of errors. In addition, research also provides strong scientific evidence for innovation and policy, so that every breakthrough is not just a guess, but has proven effectiveness. Furthermore, research produces solutions that can be retested or replicated by other researchers in different contexts and periods to validate existing findings.

Studies in educational management can take various forms with different characteristics. Evaluation studies, for example, are structured activities that aim to assess specific programs, policies, or activities to determine their level of success, efficiency, and suitability. Meanwhile, literature studies focus more on collecting, analyzing, and combining research results or literature relevant to a specific theme. In addition, there are also non-research case studies and scientific essays or opinion pieces, which are generally compiled as descriptions or reports on an event, institution, or phenomenon without undergoing a comprehensive research method. The fundamental difference between research and these studies lies in the results, where research produces new insights, while other studies tend to provide clarification or interpretation of existing facts.

Educational management research is a systematic, logical, empirical scientific activity that serves theoretical, practical, policy, and academic purposes. Research provides objective data, reduces bias, and produces tested scientific evidence. Unlike other studies, research creates new knowledge for strategic decision-making in education.
