This dream was not an ordinary dream, but a test of obedience and faith. Prophet Ibrahim was ready to carry out the command, and Prophet Ismail also agreed wholeheartedly because it was a command from Allah SWT. However, just as Prophet Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, Allah replaced him with a large sheep. This is where the ritual of sacrifice was established.
The ritual of sacrifice itself has many meanings. First, it is about sacrifice and sincerity, which is giving the best only to Allah without expecting anything in return. Second, it is about obedience, as Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail willingly carried out Allah's command with determination. Third, it is about social awareness, because the sacrificial meat is distributed to others, especially those in need.
It should also be understood that the sacrifice ritual is not a way to torture animals. In Islam, sacrificial animals must be treated well, fed, cared for, and slaughtered quickly and compassionately so that they do not suffer. Therefore, the meaning of sacrifice is not about cruelty, but about sacrifice, obedience, and sharing with others.
That is why Eid al-Adha is also called the Feast of Sacrifice. This event reminds us of the story of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail and the noble values that we can emulate to this day.
