According to India's National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) annual report, between 2017 and 2022, there were a total of 189,000 rape cases reported in India. The number of victims reached 191,000. It’s means 4 rape per hour, that why important to support the feminist movement. This feminist movement must be strengthened in areas where the partiarchal system is very strong. This partriacal system makes men feel more powerful than women, it also silences women's voices when they are oppressed, such as in cases of rape. This system also reinforced by existence of their vertical social system. Their complicated social problems triggered the rape perpetrator's courage to act violently. This reality realized by the public has given rise to the feminist movement which is a great hope for women in India to eliminate inequality.
How this feminist movement can prevent rape case in India which was carried out by feminist
activists in India in the form of protests after the abhaya incident that boomed in 2012, this heinous
act aroused burning emotions among the people of India. The rape and murder of a young doctor in
Kolkata, India, dubbed “Abhaya” revived old fears of the “Nirbhaya” case, 12 years ago. Both cases
generated a wave of fear among working women across the country, especially medical workers.
Amidst a large protest movement accompanied by doctors' strikes across the country, demands for
increased security at health facilities grew. More than 10 days after the incident, Tuesday (8/20/2024), protests are still taking place in various cities in India. They chanted, “We want justice, we want justice!”. As a result of this fear, every day Indian women are burdened to choose their outfits very carefully. The choice of clothes they can wear largely depends on where they go. They also have to limit themselves and avoid going out late at night alone. In fact, the demands of work do not allow them to always avoid a night out. The sadistic crime also tarnished the commemoration of the Hindu festival, Raksha Bandhan, on Monday (8/19/2024) which is usually celebrated warmly. The festival commemorates the bond between brother and sister.
The feminist movement's efforts have had a major impact on rape cases in india. The feminist movement can change the mindset of society and foster courage for vulnerable groups in society. The feminist movement can play a role in preventing sex crimes is based on the belief that feminist principle is such as advocating for gender equality, challenging toxic masculinity, supporting survivors, and promoting consent education it’s can address the root causes of these crimes. While the feminist movement cannot single-handedly eliminate sex crimes, it’s influence can significantly contribute. The feminist movement can completely eliminate sex crimes, it plays a critical role in reating a cultural, educational, and legal environment that is less tolerant of sexual violence and more supportive of survivors. It fosters a society where consent, respect, and equality are valued, which can significantly reduce the prevalence of these crimes.
