Paranginan - Have you ever imagined how priceless trash can produce stunning masterpieces? Moreover, the works are displayed on the runway of the modeling world.

In the midst of the flow of modern life, the world of fashion is on the rise in various corners of schools in Humbang Hasundutan Regency lately. In fact, the most frequently encountered are fashion exhibitions that adopt the theme of sustainable living culture with the principle of 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle).

On the other hand, this is actually related to serious problems currently being faced by Indonesia related to the environment. One of them is the problem of waste which is a threat that we need to deal with together.

The traditional pattern of waste management: collect-dump-transport must be abandoned and behavior must be changed starting with efforts to sort waste at home to the 3R lifestyle (reduce, reuse, recycle).

In connection with the implementation of the independent curriculum in all schools in Indonesia, the Intra-School Student Organization (OSIS) at Senior High School (SMA) 1 Paranginan, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra Province, opened an inter-class competition event to celebrate the 95th Youth Pledge Day (HSP) on October 26-28, 2023.

Of the several types of competitions in the event, one of the most unique was the fashion show competition using used goods and plastic waste which was held on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

This fashion show competition caused quite a stir among the school community because this activity was held for the first time. The models also wore matching clothes to represent each class.

Not only that, the clothes worn also looked elegant and captivated the eyes and hearts of the audience. How could it not be, the masterpiece dresses were very beautiful and unique like royal dresses and suits in a palace in a fairy tale land. The men's suits and vests were no less unique than the women's dresses. The clothes of a pair of models are made as harmonious as possible to attract the attention of the audience.

"While diving, drink water", this analogy fits the "3R catwalk" competition activity. The 3R catwalk event is not only an event to enliven the event, but also an interesting strategy to convey an important message to students about high concern for the environment.

By displaying their fashion creations in public, the students indirectly convey a message to others to reduce waste and adopt a more sustainable, clean lifestyle.

Education has an important role in shaping the character of the young generation of Indonesia to care about environmental sustainability. Therefore, the holding of this event is quite possible for students to increase awareness and concern for the school environment. This is a manifestation of the attitude of practicing the second principle of Pancasila. As students of Pancasila as well as the successors of the future of the Indonesian nation, concern for the environment is very important to improve the culture of sustainable living.

"This fashion show event is certainly very interesting and exciting to follow, because this event is appearing for the first time and is held specially," said Vera Sintyawati Siregar, a student of class XI MIA 3, as the organizing committee and treasurer of OSIS SMA Negeri 1 Paranginan.

"This fashion show competition has an important message about recycling culture. In addition to helping restore environmental cleanliness, the waste can also be processed into unique fashion creations," she added.

According to Vera, this 3R fashion exhibition event is very helpful in reducing land pollution due to waste and can improve environmental cleanliness. In addition, students can hone their skills and creativity, and can develop students' mindsets.

As a Pancasila student, we must emphasize the importance of mutual cooperation, social justice, and environmental protection. To implement these practical values, creative and innovative strategies are needed. Therefore, this activity has actually become a real example of the implementation of these practical values of Pancasila.

Catwalk 3R is a fashion exhibition concept that uses the 3R principle, reduce, reuse, and recycle. By holding this event, students are also invited to improve their skills and creativity by designing and producing clothing and accessories using recycled materials such as used goods or plastic waste.

The process of making this clothing not only teaches students about the culture of sustainable living, but also provides an understanding of the importance of collaborating, exchanging ideas, and working together in a team. This is an implementation of the third principle of Pancasila which is in line with the spirit of mutual cooperation of Pancasila students.

"In my opinion, making the clothes is quite complicated and the sketches of the clothes are a bit difficult. "Because it has to really fit the model's body," said Septian Siburian, a student of class XI IIS 2, who participated in making the clothes representing his class.

Septian admitted that the process of making costumes or clothes can improve teamwork. In addition, making clothes and accessories can train students' accuracy and independence.

Students usually use used sacks to make the inner layer of dresses and vests. While for the outer part of the dress and vest, used plastic or used newspapers with similar and matching colors are used. A little bit of iron wire in the form of a circle is added which is tied with a plastic rope to form the frame of the dress. Meanwhile, students also use leftover snack wrappers such as bread or chips and plastic cups for packaged drinks to be used as accessories to complete the clothes.

Participation in the 3R catwalk competition provides many benefits for students. This event also helps students to overcome nervousness and build self-confidence to appear in public.

Students' awareness and involvement in waste management is a form of social capital to create a clean living culture as part of the identity and character of the Indonesian people.

"Honestly, at first I was very nervous to appear in public (runway), especially with clothes like this. But, after walking for a while on the stage (runway), unconsciously, I had overcome my nervousness and appeared confident. Then, I am also happy to be able to participate in the competition that was just held this time, I like the concept that combines style with environmentally friendly culture," said Yesika Sianturi, a student of class XII MIA 1, who also took the role as a female fashion model representing her class.

Yesika explained that this catwalk competition activity can increase courage and build self-confidence. In addition, by displaying a 3R exhibition, it can convey an implicit meaning of concern for the environment and the importance of a sustainable lifestyle culture.

This 3R catwalk event is a real example of how education can be used as a means to shape character and environmental awareness in the younger generation. By combining the values of Pancasila with the 3R concept, students are invited to be part of positive change in realizing a society that is more caring and has a sustainable lifestyle culture. This activity also offers creative solutions by combining fashion style with concern for the environment.

Through participation in activities like this, it is hoped that the young generation of Indonesia can grow into responsible, creative, innovative individuals with high environmental awareness. However, they will also be able to face future challenges and make positive contributions to the development of the nation and state.
