Should Children be Allowed to Use Smartphone?
Gadgets/Smartphones are one of the technologies that are widely used by people in this day and age. This technology is used by all groups of parents, adults, and even children. Nowadays, children tend to spend more time playing with smartphones/gadgets than playing with their friends. This has become an issue/problem in the community. There are some people who are pro/agree with the permissibility of using gadgets/smartphones among children and there are also people who reject/contra to this.
The pro community thinks that with gadgets/smartphones, children will find it easier to access everything from lessons, and other important information. In addition, nowadays the education system has also used a lot of technology for teaching and learning activities, for example, such as Google classroom, Zoom meetings, Google meets, and others. Another reason is that with gadgets/smartphones, parents can monitor their children's safety, and also parents can stay in touch with their children even though they are far from their children. Another reason is that with smartphones, children can feel entertained and not feel bored.
Meanwhile, people who oppose the permissibility of using smartphones for children assume that smartphones can damage children both physically and mentally. Smartphones cause a sense of continuous addiction to children which results in children constantly playing smartphones and closing themselves off from their surroundings and not caring about the surrounding world. In addition, with the use of smartphones, children will be lazy to think and learn through print media because they rely more on finding answers and learning using smartphone intelligence.
There are many different opinions on this matter, smartphones have many positive and negative sides, it depends on how someone uses it. The role of parents is also needed to supervise their children's behavior when using smartphones. Parents should be able to set a schedule when their children are allowed to play smartphones and when not allowed to use smartphones, this can help reduce children's tendency towards smartphones.
