Have you ever walked along a beach and noticed more plastic than seashells? It's sad, but that's the world we're living in. Plastic waste is piling up everywhere. On our streets, in our rivers, and even inside animals. The question is, how much longer can we ignore it?
First, we must know why plastic is a problem. Plastic is used in bags, bottles, cups, boxes, and many things. But plastic does not break down quickly. It can stay in the earth and oceans for hundreds of years. Every year, millions of tons of plastic go into the ocean. Animals like turtles, birds, and fish eat plastic by mistake, and many of them die. It's very sad. What's even worse is that small pieces of plastic known as microplastics can end up in the food or drinks we consume. This can be dangerous for our health too. So, plastic is not just trash. It's a serious problem for the planet, for animals, and for us.
Second, we can start with simple actions. We don't need to do something big. Small habits can help. For example, bring your own water bottle instead of buying bottled drinks. Use a reusable bag when shopping. Say no to plastic straws and spoons when eating out. One of my friends brings her own tumbler to campus every day. She told me she hasn't bought bottled drinks for three months. That means she saved more than 50 plastic bottles. If we all do small things like that, the result will be big. One person can make a difference. Many people can change the world.
Next, let's invite others to join us. When more people do the same thing, the effect is stronger. We can talk to our friends, classmates, or family. We can post about it on social media. Simple messages can inspire change. In my neighborhood, people started a habit called "No Plastic Monday." On that day, we try not to use any plastic at all. People bring their own containers when buying food or drinks. Many students also joined, and now it's becoming more popular. So don't keep your good habits to yourself. Share them. Let others join the movement.
Finally, we must keep doing it. Sometimes we forget. There are times when we are in a hurry and then without thinking long enough to take a piece of plastic. But that's okay, we have to try to improve it to make it better. We should remember what goals we want to achieve, the desired goal is to protect nature, save animal life, and create a better future. We are a young generation that has strength, we have ideas by setting an example to lead change. Let us rise up to stay strong, by carrying our own bags and refusing to use plastic. Let's keep taking care of our planet. To conclude my speech, let's not wait for others to start accordingly, let's start with ourselves. Make the habit of going without plastic a part of our lives, because actually the small steps we take will make a big difference.
