Neo Culture Technology or NCT is a South Korean boy band under the SM Entertainment agency. Similar to EXO, and SNSD, the NCT boy band is also being loved by many people around the world.
However, NCT is a group that has a unique concept. Unlike most boy bands or girl bands, NCT has an unlimited number of personnel.
Not only that, each NCT member can move to a variety of different sub-units, which are based in several cities around the world.
NCT was first formed in 2016. At that time, the group had 21 members, namely Johnny, Taeil, Yuta, Taeyong, Kun, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Ten, Jungwoo, Lucas, Renjun, Mark, Jeno, Winwin, Haechan, Chenle, Jaemin, Jisung, Xiao Jun, Yang Yang, and Hendery.
NCT added 2 new members in September 2020, Shotaro and Sungchan, and the total number of NCT members became 23.
There are several sub-units in NCT where the members are not fixed, or can change. In addition, NCT also has an ever-changing leader, maknae, vocalist, and rap.
The following are some of the sub-units in NCT:
NCT U
NCT U is the first sub-unit that NCT has. There are no permanent members in NCT, however, NCT U is said to unify members who are members of other sub-units, namely NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV.
NCT U stands for Neo Culture Technology United. NCT U debuted on April 9, 2016 through the songs The 7th Sense and Without You. At the time of debut, NCT U consisted of Taeil, Ten, Mark, Jaehyun, Doyoung, and Taeyong.
However, NCT U members always change, according to the concept carried every time there is a comeback. Later, NCT U members will be adjusted according to who fits the concept of the comeback song.
NCT 127
The second sub-unit owned by NCT is NCT 127. The meaning of 127 is actually the coordinate point of the city of Seoul, because NCT 127 is based in Seoul, South Korea.
NCT 127's first debut was on July 7, 2016 with their first mini almbum, NCT #127. Doyoung and Johnny joined NCT 127 on December 27, 2016, with the comeback song Limitless. Meanwhile, Jungwoo joined NCT 127 on September 17, 2018, with the comeback song Regular-Irregular.
Currently, NCT 127 consists of 9 members, namely : Taeyong, Taeil, Johnny, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark Lee, Haechan
NCT Dream
NCT Dream is the third sub-unit of NCT. The uniqueness of this sub-unit is that it is formed based on age. To be a member of NCT dream, all members must be under 20 years old.
What happens if members are over 19 years old? Members who are over 19 years old must move to another NCT sub-unit.
NCT Dream debuted on August 24, 2016 with the song Chewing Gum. Currently, the seven members of NCT Dream are: Jaemin, Jisung, Jeno, Renjun, Chenle, Haechan, Mark Lee.
WayV
The fourth sub-unit is WayV. WayV is NCT's sub-unit based in China or China. Because it is based in China, WayV focuses on releasing Chinese songs.
WayV made its debut on January 17, 2019 by releasing NCT 127's song Regular, whose lyrics were changed into Chinese.
WayV consists of 7 members, namely: Kun, Winwin, Ten, Lucas as, Hendery, Xiao Jun, Yangyang
One of nct's sub units, nct dream, held 'THE DREAM SHOW2: In A DREAM' tour in several countries. Indonesia is one of the destination countries and a concert has been held on March 4-6, 2023 at ICE BSD, Jakarta. The NCT DREAM concert in Indonesia managed to attract a lot of attention, even the concert tickets which were held for 3 days were sold out since the ticket booking was opened, with a total of 36,000 spectators.
NCT DREAM performed a total of 29 songs, fans who where at the concert site not only sang and cheered at every performance of NCT DREAM, but also made event slogans that read "I've been waiting, come MY FUTURE", "Our love is IRREPLACEABLE like an inseparable sentence", and "DREAM that we love, let's meet again".
Meanwhile, NCT DREAM will continue their 'THE DREAM SHOW2: In A DREAM' concert at Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand, on March 10-12, 2023.
