The use of computers has dramatically changed the field of operations management since they were first introduced into business in the 1950s. Nearly all organizational operations now utilize computers for inventory management, production scheduling, quality control, and payment systems. Furthermore, computers have greatly assisted in the implementation of automation in offices and factories, solved complex communication and transportation problems, and are used in nearly all types of service organizations.
