The phenomenon, with the development of information technology in the digital era, increasingly affects the way humans manage knowledge and education. Schools and educational institutions are now required to be able to process abundant data into accurate and useful information. Facts, data, information, and information quality are important issues because mistakes in managing just one aspect can have a big impact on the quality of education. This phenomenon shows that the education management information system (SIMDIK) is no longer just a complement but a primary need to answer the demands of educational efficiency, transparency, and accountability. This writing assumption departs from the assumption that all decision-making in education requires the right information. Incorrect or late information will result in incorrect policies. Therefore, the reliability of SIMDIK is highly determined by a fundamental understanding of the relationship between facts, data, information, and information quality. Without awareness of the importance of these four aspects, the implementation of SIMDIK has the potential to fail to achieve its goals. The main problem lies in how to distinguish and manage facts, data, and information and maintain their quality. Many educational institutions do not yet have a system that is able to integrate internal and external data validly. In addition, educators' limited understanding of information quality often results in irrelevant or untimely information. As a result, the decisions taken are not in accordance with the actual needs. The purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of the concept of facts, data, information, and information quality in the context of SIMDIK. By understanding these concepts, it is hoped that educational institutions can utilize information systems more effectively. In addition, this writing also aims to praise how SIMDIK can be a strategic tool in improving the quality of education through the provision of accurate and relevant information.
Important Aspects
Some important aspects to consider include
- Facts are objective realities that can be tested through observation or scientific methods. Facts become the basis of science, giving birth to concepts, laws, and theories. In education, facts are used to understand the real conditions of schools, students, and the environment so that they become the basis for valid data processing.
- Data is a representation of facts in the form of numbers, text, symbols, sounds, or images that are still raw. Data is differentiated into internal and external, as well as quantitative and qualitative. In SIMDIK, data plays a role as the basic material for processing information needed to support planning, evaluation, and education policies.
- Information is the result of data processing so that it has meaning and use value. Good information can reduce uncertainty, increase knowledge, and support decision-making. In education, accurate information helps teachers, school principals, and the government make targeted policies according to real needs.
- The value of information is determined by the benefits obtained rather than the cost of providing it. Quality information must be accurate, relevant, timely, and easy to understand. In education, the value of information is seen in its contribution to minimizing risks, supporting transparency, and helping management improve the quality of services and student learning outcomes.
Summary
Educational Management Information systems require a deep understanding of facts, data, information, and information quality. Facts are the source of data, data produces information, and the quality of information determines the value of its usefulness. If managed properly, SIMDIK is able to support effective, transparent, and accountable decision-making. However, without attention to quality, SIMDIK is just a meaningless data set. Therefore, modern education must make SIMDIK a strategic foundation in improving the quality of services and educational outcomes.
