"The Indonesian Ministry of Forestry and Environment announced a new initiative to promote social forestry as part of its efforts to combat deforestation and improve the country's carbon sequestration efforts. The initiative, which will be implemented over the next three years, aims to increase community participation in forestry management and promote sustainable practices among smallholders and indigenous communities.

The Ministry plans to work closely with local communities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to develop and implement social forestry programs. These programs will focus on providing technical assistance and training to communities on sustainable forestry practices, as well as supporting the development of community-based forest management systems.

The Ministry also plans to establish a fund to support the implementation of social forestry programs, which will be used to provide financial assistance to communities for the development of sustainable livelihoods, as well as for the protection and restoration of forest ecosystems.

The initiative also includes a component to support the recognition of community-based forest management systems and the recognition of the rights of indigenous communities over their ancestral lands.

The Ministry's plan is seen as a positive step towards addressing the issues of deforestation and illegal logging, which have long been a major problem in Indonesia. By involving local communities in the management of forests, the Ministry hopes to increase their sense of ownership and responsibility towards their environment, which will ultimately lead to better conservation of the forests.

The initiative was welcomed by environmental activists and organizations, who praised the Ministry's commitment to promoting social forestry and the rights of indigenous communities. The Ministry's plan is seen as a vital step in ensuring the long-term sustainability of Indonesia's forests and environment."
