Covid-19 still plagues Indonesia to this day, it has not been a year. As a result of Covid-19, all activities that were previously carried out offline have now turned online, starting from work, daily activities, worship, and even education. A lot has changed due to this pandemic, one of which is education, this has made the pattern of teaching and learning activities undergo a lot of changes. Starting from elementary school (SD) to college, which the system changes according to circumstances.

During the covid-19 period, the college system has its own concept in the learning process which uses platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Team, Google Meet, and other. One of universities in Yogya, namely the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, implements online lectures. The Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta also has platforms such as myklass and Big Blue Button (BBB).

When conducting online lectures, lecturers cannot see the seriousness of their students when attending lectures. Therefore it is necessary to apply ethics or manners when taking online lectures. As said by scholar ”study the manner first before learning a science”. Which is manner or ethics related to good living procedures.

The first ethics that students can practice when taking online lectures is to be present at least 10 minutes before lectures begin. As we know, most students are often late entering lectures being 10 minutes late, 30 minutes, some even want to finish just joining the lecture. This had become a habit of student before the pandemic so that even when the covid 19 pandemic students were often late in online lectures.

Second, turn on the  camera when taking online lectures. By activating the camera feature, the lecturer knows that the student respects him and pays attention to the lecturer who is explaining the material. If you cannot turn on the camera, you should notify the lecturer. However most student don’t activate the camera feature when lecturing online, so many of the lecturer make this as a rule that must be obeyed, otherwise students will be excluded from online lectures.

Third, use clothes that are polite and neat. Don’t wear unauthorized t-shirts or clothing. As with offline lectures, where students understand that they must dress neatly and politely, as well as online lectures, students are required to wear neat and polite clothes. Think of online lectures as face to face lectures. Don’t let it because we study at home we wear clothes like at home or casual clothes.

Fourth, turn off the microphone when not in use. Always turn off the microphone when not in use, this is to keep the lecture atmosphere conducive when it is in progress. Because most students still turn on the microphone so that it interferes with the concentration and focus of other students who are paying attention to material from the lecturer.

Those are 4 important ethics that student should always pay attention to when taking online lectures. Hopefully this pandemic will end soon so that we can return to our offline lectures, not online lectures.
