By embracing this advanced technology, government of Indonesia can take a significant step towards securing its rich biodiversity, especially with regards to flora and fauna along with endemic species.Â
Drones and AI can offer the following measurable benefits:
- tracking animal behavior and migration patterns
- detecting habitat destruction
- analizing wildlife populations
Incorporating drones and AI can help researchers and scientists find real footage of certain endangered animals and learn their migrational patterns. With this, they are most likely able to come up with a better plan for securing certain types of animals living in the ecosystem.
Indonesia must manage forests and its ecosystems sustainably to achieve a prosperous future. We know that Indonesia's wealth of natural resources is critically at risk at the moment. Technology should be used wisely to manage all Indonesia's prominent resources.
Otherwise, upcoming threats may harm biodiversity and human well-being in a large scale. Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) is one of the best examples to have applied drone in practice.
YKAN has used drones to carry out mapping activities, which has been proved to be effective. Using drones has led them to have access to monitoring protected forest areas as well as monitoring biodiversity in certain regions. It might not have been possible without technology.Â
Let's take a break and imagine our forests get better and animals may be able to return to their newly protected habitats. Isn't it wonderful?
We are here on this planet to live in harmony with animals. Therefore, I would encourage anybody to speak for the species and do whatever we can to save endangered animals.Â
