Muhammad Abduh and Educational Thought

Muhammad Abduh was born in a village precisely in the Nile Delta in 1849 (Haddad, 1994: 58). His family is famous stick to religious ethics and science knowledge, so it's not surprising if at the age of 12 he memorized the Qur'an (Abduh, 1979: 17).

Like other thinkers, Abduh and Iqbal did not only move on one models / aspects of renewal only, thought Islamic education is only one of them their reputation can be simplified as follows :

Muhammad Abduh:
a. Abduh fought for the education system which is independent which is not bound to foreign education system, but rather based on a system of cultural creativity.

b. Muhammad Abduh considered that education is a consumptive material for all people (among groups). Idea This wants to emphasize that education is not only become a right for the laity (as the tradition of the community where Abduh lives) or only the elite, but must be consumed by all
circles without any dichotomization.

c. Even though Abduh was anti-secularism West, does not mean then he refused raw Western modern products, but rather try to accept the phenomenon Such modernity is based on filtering. So that in the education system that is Abduh's idea was to encourage integration between the Islamic education system with Western rationality.

Muhammad Iqbal Muhammad Iqbal was born in Punjab in in 1873. He came from a Muslim family who obedient. Since his youth he has shown some privileges, some even said that Muhammad Iqbal had bring natural features from the inside the womb (Lee, 2000: 92).

Muhammad Iqbal :
a. In the education system, Iqbal does not agree with the idea of dualism, be it dichotomous dualism between religious education and non-religious or Islamic dualism and secular symbolized between East and West.

b. Islamic education must be directed at the formation of an independent person and the quality of self, because every self is the root and rank philosophical for the creation of social harmonization.

c. The education system must be directed at social phenomena and genius patterns the people (who were then) in tyranny colonialism, so that Iqbal supports the system independent education for the community Islam.
