Sokola Rimba film, a drama genre by Riri Riza, which was released on November 21, 2013, tells the true story of the struggle of a woman named Butet Manurung, played by Prisia Nasution.

The film begins when Butet Manurung, who works in the Bukit Dua Belas Jambi National Park, rides a motorbike into the forest to teach tribal children in Jambi. After walking quite a distance, Butet felt tired and then fell unconscious in the middle of the forest. After waking up, Butet found out that he had been helped by a jungle boy from a remote area and then walked to take him to where he used to teach. Butet also wondered why there were children who were willing to walk so far to help him. A few days later Butet accidentally met the child who was helping her but the child looked scared and ran away. After finding out and trying to go to the place of the child who was helping him, Butet came to the place and asked permission from the elder chief. Finally, Butet managed to enter and teach children who could not read and write even though there were some people who did not like it because of the belief that a child carrying a pencil would get sick and the knowledge that entered would bring a curse. Butet was asked to leave by the tribal leader to prevent conflict even though the boy named Bungo felt sad because he wanted to learn and did not want to be tricked by outsiders. Butet then found a way to teach children inland in the homes of transmigrants from Java. When Bungo could read and write, his parents ordered him to go home because the tribal leader in his place had died and the tribesmen then moved. Butet then returned to Jakarta and collected help by speaking at seminars and asking international NGOs. When Butet returned to Jambi, it turned out that he received support from volunteers to establish a school in the jungle called Sokola Rimba.

According to the author, the film Sokola Rimba is one of the most interesting and extreme films, how could I not, the writer as a Jambi person knows very well how the real inner child tribe is, the inner child tribe is very sensitive to the arrival of new people and always relies on their customs in various situations. However, in the film Sokola Rimba by Riri Riza, it is able to package the story as if it were real, the inner tribe of children who are not at all rigid in playing their roles, making the writer amazed by the struggles and efforts of the director and crew in managing the ethnic groups of the children in and their devices.

With a storyline that is advanced and neatly arranged, making this Sokola Rimba film is very good, coupled with Butet or Prisia Nasution’s dialogue in the language of the inner tribes which does not look stiff and flawed at all, so it is very in tune with the dialogue of the inner tribes.

This drama genre film is very inspiring, which means that every human being needs knowledge regardless. The inner child tribe is also human, the inner child tribe also needs knowledge so that they are not left behind. And, Butet’s role in the film is very representative, where he helps tribal children in learning to read and write. This drama film was composed according to the personal experience of a woman in the Jambi area, so that this excellent film Sokola Rimba was created.
