How to Solve Climate Change as a Civil Engineering

Lots of activities in the construction process that produce or emit greenhouse gases that can cause climate change. When described construction activities that have the potential to emit greenhouse gases include the material manufacturing process, the process of transportation of equipment and material requirements, the construction/development process, and the process of disposing of building construction waste materials. If studied further, the greatest potential in CO2 greenhouse gas emissions.

 

Even a study that was conducted on a construction project gave the percentage of the carbon footprint at the transportation stage at 24%. Even though this figure looks lower than the construction stage, this figure can change many times if there are many construction projects at one time in various places. Based on the case above, there are problems that can be used as attention. 

The first problem is the emission generated by the fulfillment of electrical energy in construction projects. To overcome this problem, a civil engineer can try to fulfill electricity needs by using renewable energy. One tool that is very likely to be used is solar panels or Solar PV. Even though the energy produced by solar panels is not continuous, at least the use of this energy can reduce the use of electrical energy fulfillment tools that are not environmentally friendly. Then, for the second problem, the emissions generated by the transportation of equipment and the need for building materials. In fact, this problem is quite difficult to find a solution. The reason is because it is very difficult to replace heavy vehicles in order to be more eco-friendly

 

 Climate change can be caused by various human activities, one of which is the construction activity of a building. In the construction activity of a building there are 3 stages that have quite large potential to contribute to greenhouse gases that cause climate change, the three are the construction stage in terms of fulfilling electrical energy, the stage of transportation of construction equipment/material needs, and the stage of manufacturing construction materials. The solution to this problem can be overcome by the use of new/renewable energy. Renewable energy and/or utilize construction methods off-site construction /Prefabricated building. Then, apart from finishing

 

Problems at the construction stage, the institution also plays a role in providing education to both students and teaching staff in the field of civil engineering related to climate change and its implementation in the construction sector. It is hoped that through the role of institutions, civil engineers who are able to think critically so that they can innovate and be creative in helping the world community in achieving goals
