Education is fertile ground for research. Through inquiry, we not only measure achievements with numbers but also uncover meanings, processes, and lived experiences. This is why paradigms, axioms, and research concepts are crucial in building a solid scientific framework.Â
First, quantitative research. This paradigm is rooted in positivism, assuming that reality is objective, singular, and measurable. Problems are formulated into hypotheses and tested with valid and reliable instruments. Its strength lies in data precision and generalization, though its limitation is being reductive and less sensitive to social context.
Second, qualitative research. This approach is grounded in constructivism, viewing reality as multiple, dynamic, and full of meaning. Data are gathered through interviews, observations, or document analysis. Its strength is depth and contextual richness, though findings are often difficult to generalize and prone to subjectivity.
Third, mixed methods. This combined approach brings together the precision of quantitative research with the depth of qualitative inquiry. Data analysis is varied: statistical tools for quantitative, coding and thematic analysis for qualitative. As a result, researchers can obtain a more comprehensive picture of educational phenomena. Â Â
Fourth, the importance of consistency in paradigms and concepts. Paradigms shape the worldview, axioms provide philosophical foundations, while concepts, constructs, and variables guide research direction. Researchers who understand these foundations can produce work that is not only academically valid but also practically useful for solving educational problems.
Quantitative research ensures measurability and objectivity, while qualitative research provides depth and meaning. Both complement each other, and choosing the right method determines whether research will merely stay on paper or truly make an impact in the world of education.Â
