In the world of education, many schools face challenges in improving learning quality. One contributing factor is the lack of objective and structured internal evaluation. The assumption is that without self-evaluation, schools struggle to identify weaknesses and plan improvements. The problem is that external evaluations, such as accreditation, often fail to drive sustainable change. Therefore, this essay aims to explain the importance of School/Madrasah Self-Evaluation (EDS/M) as the foundation for systematic educational quality improvement planning. Â
**First: The Concept and Function of EDS/M** Â
EDS/M is an internal evaluation process involving all school stakeholders to assess performance based on the 8 National Education Standards (SNP). Unlike external evaluations, EDS/M is honest and aims for improvement, not just administrative assessment. Its main function is to identify school strengths and weaknesses as a basis for development planning. Thus, EDS/M becomes a vital tool in ensuring sustainable education quality improvement. Â
**Second: The Role of Stakeholders in EDS/M** Â
The success of EDS/M depends on the active participation of all related parties, including teachers, principals, school committees, and supervisors. The School Development Team (TPS) coordinates the evaluation instrument completion process, while supervisors ensure data validity and follow-up actions. This collaboration guarantees that evaluation results truly reflect the school's actual condition and trigger targeted improvements. Â
**Third: Instruments and Implementation Mechanism of EDS/M** Â
The EDS/M instrument is designed to measure the achievement of the 8 SNP through questionnaires with various answer formats. It must be filled out honestly and carefully to ensure accurate data. The evaluation results are then analyzed to determine improvement priorities, which are integrated into the School Work Plan (RKS) and the School Budget Plan (RKAS). This process ensures that school planning is data-based and focused on quality improvement. Â
**Fourth: EDS/M as the Basis for School Planning** Â
Data from EDS/M forms the foundation for preparing realistic and measurable RKS and RKAS. By setting priorities based on urgency and available resources, schools can design effective improvement programs, even without significant funding. For example, improving teacher discipline or optimizing existing facilities. This demonstrates that EDS/M is not only theoretical but also practical and applicable in real-world contexts. Â
**Conclusion** Â
EDS/M is a key element in improving education quality as it provides objective data for needs-based school planning. Involving all stakeholders, this process ensures transparency and accountability while driving continuous improvement. With consistent implementation and strong commitment, EDS/M can be an effective solution for schools to achieve national education standards independently and sustainably. Â
