Strengthening the quality of education cannot be separated from the effectiveness of school management. The phenomenon of low institutional performance is often due to weak systemic supervision. It is assumed that managerial supervision can be a strategic instrument in improving the efficiency of school management. The problem is that the implementation of this supervision model is often hampered by an authoritarian approach and a lack of follow-up. Therefore, this paper aims to outline the urgency and strategy for implementing professional and sustainable managerial supervision.
1. Managerial Supervision Concept
Managerial supervision is defined as supervision that covers all aspects of school management, from planning to resource development. The main goal is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of governance, with the functions of collaboration, evaluation, and assessment of the performance of educational institutions and personnel.
2. Scope and Objectives of Supervision
Managerial supervision targets eight national education standards, as well as fostering the performance of school principals. The scope includes participatory management-based quality assurance, which is directed to support school autonomy through systematic and objective monitoring and assessment.
3. Principles, Methods, and Techniques of Supervision
The basic principle of managerial supervision is democratic and constructive. The methods are diverse, from monitoring, focus group discussions, to capacity workshops. The techniques used can be individual, such as classroom observation, or groups, such as coaching based on similar teacher needs, with a cooperative approach that fosters professionalism.
