MID TERM. In Indonesian thesis is a term used to describe a scientific work in the form of an explanation of the results of undergraduate research that discusses a problem or phenomenon in a particular field of science by using applicable writing rules. The purpose of writing a thesis is so that students are able to compile and write scientific papers according to their field of knowledge. Students who are able to write a thesis are able to combine knowledge and skills in understanding, analyzing and explaining problems related to their scientific field.
For Indonesian students, a thesis is considered an obligation that must be completed to complete education at the bachelor or bachelor level. Thesis is considered compulsory for final semester students to complete their assignments in college. However, the thesis should be an option for final semester students to complete their education in higher education because it is in accordance with the contents of the Tridarma of higher education which contains Education and Teaching, Research and Development, and Community Service.
Should be in accordance with the contents of the Tridarma of higher education, student graduation can not only be through a thesis but there is an option to become a benchmark for students graduating in college. The choice for graduation is by doing community service. Community service is an activity that aims to help certain communities in accordance with the scientific field they take. An example of community service activities is creating technological innovations to encourage economic development where students serve.
The former Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education, RI, Muhammad Nasir once deleted theses in tertiary institutions on the grounds that the sale and purchase of diplomas and tracing of theses is still rampant, all because in the name of graduation, these methods are indeed problems in higher education. Students have no choice but to take a thesis course to be declared graduated from college..
However, graduating from college today is not just writing a thesis. Students can choose to take part in the Student Creativity Program or abbreviated as PKM. PKM is a forum formed by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in facilitating the potential of Indonesian students to study, develop, and apply the knowledge and technology that has been learned during lectures. wide community. If the Student Creativity Program made by students and submitted by the college to the Ministry of Education and Culture is declared successful, the Chancellor has the right to grant graduation to students who take part in these activities without having to make a thesis. This has been promised by the Rector of Jambi University. However, currently very few graduations by joining the Student Creativity Program.
The ministry of education and culture should provide regulations for tertiary institutions for final year students in completing their assignments without being obliged to choose a thesis so that students can choose the field and focus of their final goal of graduation at the university not only in the form of paper but also in the form of a work that can benefit the surrounding community.
