My First Experience Climbing                            Mount Merbabu

During the school break in July, my older brother and I decided to spend our holiday by climbing Mount Merbabu, which is located in Central Java. We traveled by train. It was my first experience climbing a mountain.

On the first day, I departed from Depok Station to Pasar Senen Station at 8:00 a.m. Mybrother and I arrived at Lempuyangan Station at 5:00 p.m. After arriving at Lempuyangan, Irented a motorbike and went to the Mount Merbabu basecamp via the Gancik route at 9:00 p.m.The journey felt very cold and quiet. On the second day, I got ready for registration and start the hike. At 8:00 a.m., we began climbing from the basecamp to post 1 by taking an ojek to save time and energy because the distance was quite far. From post 1 to post 2, the trail becamesteeper and fog started to descend. The distance between post 1 and post 2 took about 35 minutes. After reaching post 2, my brother and I rested for about 10 minutes. Then, I continuedhiking to post 3. The atmosphere at post 3 was very foggy, visibility became blurry, the trail gotsteeper, and the ground turned slippery. At 4:00 p.m. I arrived at post 4. At post 4, I set up thetent and rested. We prayed, cooked, and ate together. As night fell, the weather turned colder and suddenly it rained. After that, we prepared to sleep inside the tent. On the third day, at 5:00 a.m, we got ready for the summit. The hike to the peak took about two hours. The trail was extremelysteep and included several hills before reaching the top. When we reached the summit, the windblew strongly and the sun began to rise. A beautiful twilight appeared along the trail. At thesummit, we didn't forget to capture the moments and rested while eating snacks and the supplies we had brought. Not long after, we descended to the tent and prepared to return to the basecamp.A day before going home, we visited Malioboro and bought souvenirs for our family. After that,my brother and I walked to Lempuyangan Station at 11:00 p.m. to head back to Depok Station. When we arrived at Depok Baru Station, our father picked us up and we returned home.

The trip was truly enjoyable and gave me many unforgettable experiences. It felt amazingto climb a mountain with my family, enjoy the fresh air, beautiful views, and serenity away fromthe hustle and bustle of the city. I wanted to climb another mountain someday. Besides enjoyingthe natural beauty, I learned a lot from that trip about the spirit of struggle, togetherness, and themeaning of never giving up on reaching the summit. Every step felt difficult, but once I reachedthe top, all the fatigue was rewarded with a breathtaking view. The mountain also taught me toappreciate nature more. I realized that Indonesia had such beautiful and amazing nature, and itwas our duty to preserve that beauty. Therefore, I wanted to continue learning and encouraged
