Baharuddin Jusuf Habibie: Journey is about airplane
"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself," said Joseph Campbell. Baharuddin Jusuf Habibie was the third President of Indonesia who was given his life to something important to his society. Habibie is the brilliant person who has basic in science and mathematics. Furthermore, he is an engineer who graduated from Germany. After that, he was a hero for Indonesian citizen.
First, Habibie is the intelligent and smart person in Indonesia especially in science and also mathematics study field from childhood. Entering on young adult, he was looking for Institute in Indonesia and he got a letter from Bandung Institute of Technology and studying there for several years.
Furthered, he next the studies at the Institute of Technology of North Rhine-Westphalia in Aachen, West Germany. In Germany, he always studying hard non-stop until he graduating in 1960 from that Institute. Then, he became an aeronautics researcher and production supervisor.
Next, after he was graduating from Germany and appointed to became an aeronautics, he became an engineer of an air vehicle. Then, he learned about the systems and also the detail of the construction and materials. He worked hard with new spirit every day. Learn how to operate the system and also design the machine of a vehicle.
In his mind, he would advance Indonesia in his way. Next idea, he has a brilliant idea that is made an airplane for Indonesia. He returned to Indonesia and made an airplane which is made by hands of the nation or original from Indonesia. He made an airplane then give the name as "N-250" and launched on 10 August 1995. The citizen was so proud to Habibie and Indonesia because of his struggle he was successfully made an airplane to make Indonesian citizen easier to go to another place.
The journey of his life was not quite up here before he made an airplane he became a third President of Indonesia replacing the position of Soeharto. Unfortunately, he resigns from that position because of the problem about the Timor Timur Referendum. He made a statement that allowed Timor Timur out of Indonesia and made a new nation. These statements were actually true but the citizen of Indonesia does not agree with his statement. So, he chose to resign from that position.
Became a hero is not always given benefit to the others, but also brave to make a hard decision. For example, Habibie struggled to keep the statement about Timor Timor, but the society chose not to follow his statement and he chose to resign from the position. A hero is a person who gives up for nation progress but it means not trying to give up on the life destiny.
