Dibalik kecaman dan kritik pedas yang selalu ditujukan kepada SBY yang dianggap selalu lamban dan keliru mengkomunikasikan aparaturnya terutama carut marutnya kasus cicak buaya dan bang sianturi akhir-akhir ini, sebaliknya justru mendapat penghargaan "The Golden Standard Awards 2009" untuk bidang komunikasi politik lembaga yang berpusat di Hong Kong. Penghargaan luar ini justru berkebalikan dengan atmosfer domestik. Berikut cuplikan pemberitaan dasar penghargaan tersebut ------------------ Feature Friday, 15 January 2010, 07:00 ICT The Gold Standard: Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Following his historic second general election victory in Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would be a deserving winner of The Gold Standard Award for Political Communications, Hans Vriens says in his nomination Indonesia under his stewardship is once again taking a much more active role in driving the future of ASEAN Yudhoyono is the first democratically elected Indonesian president to be returned to office for a second term which he achieved via a landslide victory earlier this year, earning fully 60% of the popular vote in a fair and enthusiastically contested election. He has garnered praise both home and abroad for instituting processes to tackle the widespread corruption that blights Indonesian public life and reinforcing the mandate of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He has done this in the face of powerful vested interests both in law enforcement and the legislature. On the international stage, Indonesia under his stewardship is once again taking a much more active role in driving the future of ASEAN. Though Indonesia historically was always an integral part of the Association its commitment and relevance has wavered over the last twenty years. However, SBY has reaffirmed Indonesia’s position as a champion of closer integration. Indonesia is also now not afraid to skirt the line of ASEAN’s longstanding non-intervention doctrine by talking tough about flagrant human rights abuses in Myanmar, much to the relief and admiration of Western governments that have spent years looking on in frustration as other ASEAN member states have refused to criticize the Burmese junta. This intra-ASEAN pressure may yet affect more change than the larger powers have managed in decades. Growth maintained As far as the economy goes, SBY has had to deal with the same macro-economic outlook as other heads of state, but he has still managed to keep Indonesia’s growth rate ticking along at over 4 per cent year-on-year and the Jakarta Composite Index has outperformed all other benchmark indices in the region. This has in part been achieved by the political stability that SBY’s reelection has fostered, but it also due to his focus on creating a more cohesive business environment. He has consistently extolled the benefits of foreign investment to an often skeptical parliament – this has recently culminated in the implementation of his government’s five year economic plan which will liberalise trade and make it easier for foreign companies to do business in Indonesia. In light of these achievements in both foreign and domestic policy, Vriens & Partners believes SBY should certainly be considered the "Political Communicator of the Year 2009".
