Differences between Singapore and Indonesia as countries in Southeast Asia

By: Amalia Ramadhani P. S

Southeast Asia is the continent of Asia, precisely in the southeast. It is an area that covers Indochina and the Malay Peninsula. When discussing Southeast Asia, the words Singapore and Indonesia are familiar. The two countries are known to be neighbors, even though the distance between the tip of Medan and the port of Singapore is only 30 minutes to an hour by water. There is nothing wrong with Indonesian citizens who often visit Singapore using this route.

Apart from being close together and seeming familiar to Indonesian ears, there are many differences between these two countries. Starting from the economy, the culture formed in it, the language used, and its geographical status. Although we know that these two countries are both part of the Southeast Asian continent, Let us understand the explanation below to better understand the differences between these two countries.

Singapore, or the Republic of Singapore, is an archipelagic country located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 137 km north of the equator in the Southeast Asia Region. Singapore is the world's third largest economic center and one of the international metropolises that play a crucial role in international trade and the economy.

Singapore is very popular in terms of tourism. The tourists who visit Singapore will generally visit the Merlion statue as well as other symbols of the state of Singapore. Orchad Road is a popular location for people who love to shop, and, of course, Changi Airport is the best airport in the world.

Same with Singapore, Indonesia, or what used to be called Nusantara. also has a variety of tourist destinations that are not less famous. Indonesia is also one of the Asian countries in the Southeast. More specifically, Indonesia is located between the equator and is between two continents, namely the continents of Asia and Oceania. Indonesia is also located between two oceans, namely the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Indonesia is a country known for its diversity. From Sabang in the land of Aceh to Merauke in the land of Papua, Indonesia has many different tribes, languages, and religions.

Indonesia has a national slogan, namely "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika", which means "different, but still one". This motto describes the socio-cultural diversity that builds the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. Apart from being densely populated and wide in area, Indonesia is also the second-largest container of biodiversity in the world.
