Doing Assignments While Hanging Out-An Ineffective Way

Students can't be separated from assignments whether individual or group assignments. The assignments can train their sense of responsibility by completing it. Students are also trained to develop time management. So with these assignments, they will begin to divide their time. It will make encourages self-discipline for students.  Many assignments often make them bored, complained and ended up stalling to do it. To overcome this, sometimes students do assignments while hanging out. Hanging out can be in various places one of them is a cafe. It may give new feel and pleasure for them. However, I say that doing the assignments while hanging out is an ineffective way.

First, doing assignments while hanging out will make the concentration interfere. Cafe is public places where there will be lots of people and noise. It makes out of focus. A background of noise can interfere with one's concentration, this condition will increase stress levels, said Mark AW Andrews, director and professor of psychology at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at Seton Hill University, Greensburg. Even though students can use earphones by listening to music or something to minimize the noise, in fact, they still see a lot of people passing by in their sight.  The attention will be disturbed seeing that. Therefore, their focus will be distracted.

Hanging out in cafe will make students spend more money. Moreover, if they can't control, it will be extravagant. It is impossible not to buy anything there. They are definitely order food or drink. It is true that they can buy a cheap one so that they can save money. But the results will be the same when they buy a cheap one several times. The more they stay in cafe, the more they buy food or drink. I remember when my friend told me about her shameful experience. At that time she was in a cafe and doing assignments. When her food and drink ran out, she didn't order anymore. So the table was empty, there was nothing because the plates and glasses had been cleaned by the waitress. She overheard one of the visitors with her friends talking about her because of her table was empty and she didn't leave immediately. She felt embarrassed and decided to order again because the assignments had not been finished. So it can be clarified, the longer students do the assignments, the more wasteful they are.

Students do group assignments with their friends in a cafe have the possibility that they will talk too much which are unimportant topics more than they do about their assignments. Considering the cafe would be the ideal place for that, so they continue it and they don't do the assignments. Because of that, they forget the time. It should be spent for doing assignments, not for unnecessary conversations. Although students can be more free to joke with friends in cafe, it can make them forget their initial purpose, which is actually doing assignments. As a result they go home with unfinished assignments. I remember once when my friends and I did the group assignments in cafe. We wasted our time to talk unnecessary. Finally, we went home and our assignments were not finished yet.

In conclusion, I believe that doing assignments while hanging out for students make their focus will be distracted and their concentration will be interfered. Students can get a new sense and they are not bored when doing assignments while hanging out in the cafe, but it's useless if they still can't focus and concentration on doing their assignments. Don't they have to finish assignments instead of stalling?
