IAIN Surakarta proves the good quality of their student with a a good movie called “Tormented” . This movie was produced by 5th semester of English Letters Department. With a creepy athmospher and good cinematography, the movie aired at 24th November 2018 and it has a good appreciation amongs the student and lecturer of IAIN Surakrta. “Tormented” tells about the young woman who suffering from mental Illness. For her sake her husband move to beautiful estate, hoping that it will help her. But it comes to worst when she found out about the yellow painting in there. The movie itself has the genre of horor and adapted from Yellow Wallpaper Novel by Charlotte Perkins Gilmen . Well, maybe it won’t be good as well as the professionalism production studio, but it worth it to watch. There are some part this movie is good but the other part also need critism.
The acting from the actors and actress is good and especially the chemistry of the couple in this movie. the costume of the actor / actress is very suitable with the background story of the film. it's just better if the costume designer pays more attention to the storyline too when it has changed to another part of the scene but the costume remains the same.
The shooting location is very appropriate with the story, for horror scenes, romantic and family scenes can all be included in the story. the time to take each scene is appropriate to display the storyline. so viewers can feel the same atmosphere at the film when the film is playing because every scene, location, time that supports the story, the situation in the film becomes more real as if we were in the story. Mayority of using time in the movie is night. Because the movie has horror genre and the time can increase the feeling of atmosphere. This movie also has tense situation, because the item supporting such as: backsound, photography, using time, and etc can create the tense situation in the movie.
The outstanding about this movie is actually in cinematography. It is really awesome while they just filming with the limited camera and tools. Cameramen are quite reliable and good in every part of the actor's angle and story angle. There is no important part of the film that is cut or taken from an angle that does not fit. all parts neatly arranged. It is quite interesting because not all locations for shooting movies get a good lighting. However, the film editor seems to have been an expert in editing it, because we noticed there were parts of the film when the main actors and additional actors were underexposed but were given film filters that made both visible without disturbing the audience's vision because of the added filters didn't contrast with the previous film parts.
Unfotunetly, There are some music parts that are not appropriate for the backsound of this film, for example in some parts of the film (even including the film intro) there is a horror music that has been awaited by viewers. What will be scary scenes when the music is played, unfortunately until the film ends we think there is no scene the slightest creepy on this film.
Well, we think this film is classified as a good movie to watch. This film tells the story of feminism and how the main cast thinks about her new life as a girl who lives in a village and must follow the culture as a village woman. By taking the perfect filming location, storyline, music, costumes and film edits we can understand the mindset of people around us and how we should deal with it. In essence this is a masterpiece and deserves a good appreciation. Well, We really recommended this one, especially if you really like about literature adaptation movie
