After in orbit the spaceship is spun to produce artificial gravity. Cooper and his crew is put to cryogenic sleep for 2 years to conserve resources. The wormhole they encountered was spherical and led them to another galaxy. Information and communications could travel through the wormhole, but couldn’t travel back out. Hence the information they received from their predecessor astronaut on their planets, new. The predecessor astronauts would accumulate data about the well being of the planet; the resources, oxygen level, climate and such, which would be sent to Cooper’s spaceship

Cooper brought a smaller group towards the first planet which was extremely close to the black hole yet just far enough that it remained stable. However, being in close vicinity of a black hole will cause time to slow down as gravity curves space time. Unfortunate events happen as they land; a gigantic tidal wave plows down the ship. Returning to the main ship they find that one of the crew named Romilly has waited for 23 years. This leads to a very emotional scene where Cooper as a father experiences his children grow up in an instant, watching videos that were sent from earth.

With distrust spread among the crew members after Dr. Brand’s (daughter of professor Brand/Amelia) previous mistake, they travel to an icy planet which from the data records sent by previous explorer Dr. Mann said that the planet is habitable at the surface. After a short walk however, Dr. Mann had in fact gone crazy after years of being stranded on a toxic planet and assaulted Cooper taking the spacecraft and left for the main ship. The data stating that it was a habitable planet was fraud.

Dr Mann flees to the main ship with Cooper and his crew following from behind. Because TARS, an artificial intelligence computer, locked the docking system, Dr Mann was unable to properly enter the main ship. After manual docking and releasing the air lock, the pressure sucked Mann out into space and the spacecraft crashed into the main ship. Cooper sought out the last ray of hope and attempted to dock with the spinning out of control main ship hurdling towards Dr Mann’s planet. The following is a remarkable scene and my favorite, where Cooper saves the main ship and gets it back into orbit, although leading it on route to Gargantua, the black hole.

Here Cooper makes his sacrifice as he dips into a black hole letting Dr. Brand execute plan B. However, as Cooper enters the black hole, it seems as though he is saved and placed into a tesseract by the mysterious beings letting him control the fifth dimension and time. He gives his daughter Murphy who has followed in Professor Brand’s footsteps, the data required to finish the equation allowing them to leave planet earth on a O’Niell cylinder which rotates to provide gravity. Coming in close to a black hole caused more years to pass and Cooper is finally found reappearing near Saturn. Though humanity was saved, when Cooper meets his daughter she had already turned old.

The movie ‘interstellar’ was helped developed by a real physicist and is based on real science all the way. Yes, time dilation is real and can be measured while nearing a black hole or a planet with a large mass can cause time to slow down. Wormholes are mathematically possible but are said to be highly unstable and scientists currently have no observational evidence. Cryogenic sleep may become a thing in the future as the research for Mars One continues to develop. The visual makings of the black hole itself required its own renderer to be made and accumulated terabytes of data. Its glow of light surrounding it, also called an accretion disk, was said to keep the habitatual planets near the area warm. The accretion disk is actually only horizontal but because of gravitational lensing the observer sees glow on the top and bottom which is actually the back of the black hole.

Interstellar is an amazing movie and I recommend everyone to watch it.
