Education reform is an effort to improve the education system to make it more relevant to the demands of the times. Globally, this reform emphasizes the importance of updating the meaning and methods of learning. In Indonesia, education reform is complex and aims to increase effectiveness in achieving national goals, including in the field of Islamic religious education. This reform is strengthened through the Merdeka Belajar policy which emphasizes flexibility, independence, and a pleasant learning atmosphere for all parties.
First, the Basic Concept of Global Education Reform; Global education reform is a process of change that aims to improve the education system of a society to make it more relevant to the development of the times. The essence of global education reform lies in efforts to review the meaning and methods of education through debates about what content and experiences should shape educated individuals and societies. The main motivation for education reform is the awareness of the importance of continuous improvement of educational institutions in order to be able to answer the challenges of society and technology that continue to develop.
Second, Education reform in Indonesia; is a complex, multifaceted, and interrelated process between its elements. The essence of national education reform reflects the urgent need to overhaul the education system to be more responsive to the needs of the nation and global change. The main objective of this reform is to make the national education system more effective and efficient in achieving the national education goals that have been set out in laws and regulations.
Third: Reform of Islamic religious education in Indonesia; is an integral part of the dynamics of change in the national education system. In this context, reform is required to produce new ways of thinking and acting through a diagnosis of the existing religious education system. The goal is for Islamic religious education to remain relevant and able to answer the challenges of the times without losing the substance of its values. Over time, the government has issued various policies that support the development of madrasas and other Islamic educational institutions.
Fourth: Model of Islamic religious education reform; currently also directed through the "Independent Learning" policy. The concept of Independent Learning aims to create a pleasant and liberating learning atmosphere for both students and educators. This policy emphasizes the importance of flexibility, independence, and the development of individual potential without being bound by overly rigid standards. In its implementation, Merdeka Belajar provides space for educators and educational units to innovate in teaching, including in Islamic religious education and character education.
