Was born on 4 Sya'ban 1940 according to the Islamic calendar or 7 September 1940. [1] He was the first child of the Wahid Hasyim and Solichah pair. Gus Dur's father, Kiai Wahid Hasyim was a nationalist who was appointed as minister of religion in the first five cabinet.When his father became minister of religion, Wahid moved to Jakarta.
In Jakarta, Abdurrahman knew many people from various backgrounds and began to recognize European classical music. In Jakarta, he entered elementary school.
