While reading The Jakarta Post, my eyes caught a tagline : Global Education + Global Network = Global Opportunities. It really represented what i thought about how to survive in globalization era. We must think globally.

In 1979, Ezra Vogel wrote a book , Japan as Number One: Lessons for America which was controversial and became so popular. This book was inspired by Japan's growth in less than two decades, started from the end of 1950 to 1970. But now it has a different story. In The Global Cities Index (the version of Foreign Policy Magazine), Japan is not number one anymore. The main reason is the globalization issue.

Japan manufactures has already produced many products that is exported to many countries. But the people do not think globally. They do not have willingnes to study overseas, to learn other language and there are not many foreign people live in Japan. These are causing Japanese people tend to be passive.

In the Globalization forum, Takahisa Miyauchi, Executive Vice President Chemical Group Mitsubishi Corporation gives some advices about how to deal with globalization. One of his advice is to pursue overseas study. It is relevant with the tagline i wrote. Studying overseas is the way to get global education. It trains us to adapt with other culture, to enlarge our networking by making a friend with foreign students, and to develop our skill as well as them.

Next question is where we should go to? I will choose India or China. India produces graduates, that their qualification are acknowledged globally. And the good news is the tuition fee is very affordable there. India has different culture, different food and they use different letters on writing. The other reason is their academicians speak English fluently.

How about China. Although China and Japan is a cognate, but the Chinese have soul to wander outside their home. In every country we will find any Chinatown there. China also produces 30,000 Phds in science and technology between 1985 and 2005. They must be the main reason in propelling China's exceptional progress in the past decade.

At last, Whereeverwe decide to go overseas forstudying , to get the higher education , if we run there, it can develop us, to learn each other, and to appreciate difference. The most important is we will have a global perception.

Let's pursue overseas study!
