Hasan Hanafi was born on February 13, 1935 in Cairo. reformer figure in Islamic thought by reconstructing traditional theology. Traditional theology, said Hanafi, was born in a historical context when the Islamic core of the belief system, namely God's transcendence, was attacked by representatives from old sects and cultures. Theology is intended to maintain the main doctrine and to maintain its purity. Hanafi asserted that the reconstruction of theology must not have the implications of the loss of old traditions. This reconstruction aims to maintain the concept of external threats that come. The government or Islamic state seen by Hanafi, has a very close influence in advancing these Muslims. Not much different from Hanafi, he offered a reconstruction of traditional Islamic thought. To reconstruct the traditional Arabic reasoning thought formation, thoughts with al jabiri thoughts about the infantile, 'irfani, and burhani epistemologies are the moderate thoughts of Islam today. Thus, the critique of reason here is intended to free Arabic reason from the hegemony of turts, then start again from the reality of the Arab-Islamic culture itself, without having to be burdened with a majority / dominant perspective that has been rooted for so long in Arab consciousness
Infant reasoning can be called text-oriented reasoning. Irfani's systemology itself is that the knowledge obtained is not based on texts such as bayani, but on kasyf, the disclosure of the secrets of reality by God. while burhani does not rely on the text at all, nor does it relate to experience, but burhani relies on the power of reason which is done with the postulates of logic.
Hasan Hanafi and al-Jabiri's thoughts above show a similarity in their goal to deconstruct classical Arabic thought.
Hassan Hanafi considered himself a failure and only gave discourse on Islamic renewal. because at the beginning of his intellectual career he strongly supported the Muslim Brotherhood movement which at the time he was led by Sayyid Qutb, a movement based on the ideals of actualizing the values of the Qur'an and hadith. But, in the end he left the Muslim Brotherhood and made his thoughts tend to be utopian (imaginary). The occidentalis who was the culmination of his thoughts were driven by Ikwanul Muslimin, instead he finally left the movement. The Islamic Left (al-Yassar al-Islami) as its support for the movement also ran aground in the middle of the road, where Hassan Hanafi never echoed the concept to defend the Ikwanul Muslimin movement.
Unlike al-Jabiri, he remained consistent in his defense of his thoughts in order to reconstruct classical Islamic thought in order to rebuild Islamic civilization.
