Assignments for psycholinguistics courses

The process by which language is expressed by human speech is actually very complex. Just because of the accustomed factor, the process happens so quickly without realizing it, as if it just happened. For example, if we speak in a foreign language that has not been mastered, this complex process will be felt marked by the slow pace of conveying information about what we think. Because we have to think first to find the right vocabulary, how to arrange them and how to convey them.

In the process of delivering this information, the task of the speaker is to convey what he is thinking, then the listener's job is to capture or accept what the speaker said. The process of conveying this information begins when an object is seen by the speaker. Then automatically in the speaker's brain will appear a series of processes to convey information about what he saw. The overall process that occurs in the brain is divided into four stages, namely:

1. Lexical selection

In this stage what happens is the choice of words. What objects are seen and then search for vocabulary words that will be used to convey the object.

2. Syntactic representation

After finding the word to be used, it enters the process of Syntactic representation, which is arranging the words that have been selected to match their position in the sentence. This process is what makes a sentence not messy with the position of the words, for example the subject occupies the predicate position or vice versa and others.

3. Phonological representation

After the words are arranged into unified sentences then enter Phonological representation, which is how the sentence is pronounced.

4. Articulatory system
