Jakarta - Tragedy struck Jatinegara, Cakung, East Jakarta when a fire broke out on Jalan Swadaya 4, claiming the life of one person. According to the Head of East Jakarta Gulkarmat Gatot Sulaiman, the fire originated from a gas cylinder leak in one of the rented houses, rapidly spreading to engulf neighboring properties. Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames emerging from a section of a room before rapidly spreading to adjacent houses.
Tragically, one victim, identified by the initials T (10), lost their life in the incident. The victim, who had disabilities, was allegedly abandoned by their mother, identified as Mrs. D, who was not present at the time of the fire.
The fire caused extensive damage, estimated at approximately Rp 700 million. Twelve families, consisting of 48 individuals, were directly affected by the incident, losing their homes and belongings.
The fire incident occurred on Friday (2/6) at around 04:28 WIB on Jalan Swadaya 4, RT 04/05, Jatinegara, Cakung, East Jakarta. The blaze rapidly consumed the residential properties, consisting mainly of low-rise buildings.
A swift response was initiated, with a total of 12 firefighting units and 60 personnel dispatched to the scene. After approximately one hour of battling the flames, the fire was successfully extinguished, preventing further damage and loss of life.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the gas cylinder leak and determine if any negligence or safety violations contributed to the tragedy. Efforts will also be made to provide support and assistance to the affected families, including temporary shelter and essential supplies.
