Indonesia is in mourning, over the death of Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil's eldest son, named Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz or commonly called Eril. On Thursday, May 26 2022, Eril was declared drowned and missing in the Aare River, Switzerland. His body was just found by the Swiss police on Thursday, June 5, 2022.
The incident began with the arrival of Eril, accompanied by his mother and younger sister, to Switzerland to seek a scholarship to study for a master's degree. In between these activities, Eril with his friends and his younger sister swam in the Aare river area. When he was about to rise to the surface, it was suspected that Eril was swept away by the current of the river and then disappeared. Until finally, on Thursday 9 June 2022 exactly two weeks after the sinking incident, Eril's body was found by the Swiss police.
According to cnnindonesia.com, Eril's body was found at the bottom of the Engehalde Dam river, about 3.2 kilometers from the starting point of swimming at the Engehalde Water Gate, Barengraben. Maritime police specialists from the Cantonal Bern police found a body around the river basin, not long after, the body was confirmed to be Eril's. After going through a DNA test, Indonesian Embassy in Switzerland confirmed the body of the man found was Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland, Muliaman Hadad, confirmed that the body of Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz would be treated according to Islamic law. West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil stated that Eril would arrive in Indonesia on Sunday, June 12, 2022, and would be buried the next day. Ridwan Kamil also expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian Embassy in Switzerland and the Police/Bern City Government for their hard work in finding Eril's body.
