I think that we have all studied the water cycle, but if you haven't or you forgot let me just give you a refresher. Step 1. The sun evaporates water from lakes, rivers, plants, etc. then the water condenses, forming clouds. Step 2. The clouds get too heavy because of the water, then it rains. Step 3. The rain either forms a puddle, joins in to a lake/river, or gets used by a tree for photosynthesis. Step 4. Repeat the process. So, based on that process, water always stays the same, it doesn't have less or more volume from the start. Even when we drink, we don't actually make the water less or more. So that concludes the recap.

Now. Let's talk about the properties of water. Water has the properties to support life, so, a planet with running water, is sure to have life, but life does take millions of years to develop life, so planets who lost their water, during those millions of years, life may not develop. Some examples of those planets in our solar system is, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Believe it or not, mercury had water, and, was in the goldilocks zone (the zone that usually has all the "habitable" planets, because its not too far and not too close to the sun). but mercury was knocked out of it, and was pushed closer to the sun losing its crust and its water. Venus on the other hand was already too close to the sun, but it lost its water because of the greenhouse effect. Mars, was too far from the sun, and it was too small, meaning, a smaller core, so, its core cooled down, losing its magnetic field, that protected it from the sun's radiation. Thus, losing its water.

Earth where we live, is just about right in the goldilocks zone, allowing water, to flow, not freeze. Making a warmer climate that could sustain life, also producing, and storing oxygen (link to my previous essay: https://www.kompasiana.com/wibisanapramudya5554/62048e1cb4616e7c224cc7e9/trees-the-best-or-worst-oxygen-producer) they actually produce around 80% of the worlds oxygen and all of that is from the plankton in the ocean. Even the first lifeforms were from the water, starting out as single cell organisms like bacteria. Then evolving to be consisted of multiple cells, then they decided "you know what, I'm bored I need some fresh air" then they just left and went to land. Then repopulated.

Anyway, that's enough about the benefits of water, now its time for the benefits of rain. So, the first water to come to earth was when the smoke from the lava, made a cloud of smoke then because of the chemicals in the cloud it rained water cooling down the lava, and making the oceans. Rain also provides water for plants far from a water source. It also provides animals with sources of water. Especially after the dry season. And rain water is actually pretty clean, because the evaporation process gets rid of the dirt and dust. But it might still have bacteria, so boil it first if you want to drink it.

Okay, this should mark the end of this essay. I got this information from watching Discovery Channel and National Geographic. I am sorry for wrong/misleading information. So please, always double-check this information. So, stay tuned for big number...
