Animal Friend Jogja (AFJ) held focused discussion about the welfare of laying hens and ducks is an important issue that must be pushed together by various parties. There are several important aspects to ensure the welfare of laying hens and ducks such as strict regulations regarding health management and ethical treatment of animals, providing adequate infrastructure for monitoring and treating animal diseases, and ensuring compliance with these regulations.
In the second session, Elly Mangunsong, one of the founders of AFJ, explained the initiation of the Cage-Free District as one of the applications of good practice in the welfare of laying hens in the business world which aims to provide an area that is friendlier and cares about the welfare of the animals being raised. From this discussion, there are 5 conclusions which will be submitted to BAPPEDA and later included on RPJPD 2025-2045. The five conclusion is:
Regulatory standards are needed to build improvements in the welfare quality of animals as well as the implementation strategies with higher standards as a strategic move.
Preparation of strategic plans (Renstra) for animal welfare through RPJMN, RPJPN and RPJPD.
Collaboration with related parties.
This requires research and innovation carried out by research and higher education institutions.
Development of outreach, education and training programs.
After the finding of comprehensive regulatory standards to increase the welfare quality of laying hens and ducks, the implementation can be realized by strategic moves.
