Integrated Learning of English and PPKn Based on Local Culture in Banten Province

Education according to the Law on the National Education System Number 20 of 2003 is a conscious and planned effort to create a learning atmosphere and learning process so that students actively develop their potential to have religious spiritual strength, self-control, personality, intelligence, noble character, and skills. what is needed by himself, the people of the nation and the state. Talking about education in the context of learning, Bambang Warsito, quoted by Mardeli, explained that it is a process that will never end until the end of one's life. 1

Thus it can be concluded that education is a process of psychological or mental learning activity that takes place in active interaction with the environment, which results in changes in knowledge and understanding, skills and attitude values in a person. In the whole process of learning in educational institutions in schools is the main foundation. This is in line with the state's objectives contained in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia which reads "to educate the life of the nation".

In a learning process, various strategies are needed to achieve learning objectives. So that it can produce one change in each lesson. Teachers of the 21st century are required to always provide new innovations to students so that learning is not monotonous. 21st century learning is learning designed for the 21st century generation to be able to keep up with the latest technological developments. Therefore, the teacher as the spearhead of human development must know about developments and changing times. Teachers are expected to be able to understand Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) in a framework that identifies knowledge, and teachers need to teach effectively with a technology framework. 21st century learning is a learning transition in which the developed curriculum guides schools to change the learning approach from teacher centered to student centered.

One of the learning models that is in line with 21st century education, one of which is the integrated learning model or integrated learning is a teaching package that connects various concepts from several disciplines. The integrated learning method is oriented towards student activity, students' prior knowledge is very helpful in understanding concepts and learning success and puts forward creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, communication and collaboration.

Referring to research results (Kurniawan, 2018; Hodijah, 2018; Panjaitan et al., 2014; Kawuryan, 2011), departing from the social conditions that exist among young people in the era of globalization, namely the erosion of regional and national identities and the emergence of new identities in universal form resulting in the loss of local cultural values. In addition, another impact of the transfer of these values has implications for a lack of understanding of regional cultural values which strengthens the understanding and character of the Indonesian generation. If this problem is left unchecked, it will have an impact on the loss of understanding of regional cultures which are the nation's wealth, especially in the younger generation of Banten Province. However, to maintain national identity and understanding of local wisdom is to integrate it into the formal education curriculum (Suja & Wirta, 2012; Asmani, 2012).

One of the causes of the problem is that it can be found in the teaching materials used and teaching techniques for English and PPKn subjects which integrate knowledge of each of the basic competencies listed in the syllabus with an understanding of the concept of local culture in the people of Banten Province. Thus, the innovations carried out by teachers of SMAN 3 KABUPATEN TANGERANG starting from 2020 until now applied and the integrated learning model, namely, Collaboration between English subjects and PPKn integrated learning based on local culture is value education, character education, education moral, and character education that aims to develop the ability of students to make good and bad decisions, maintain what is good according to the views of life, science, strategies that apply in the study learning process where students are carried out exploring local culture that exists in every city or Regency of Banten Province. Therefore, this learning is quite important to do in order to add references and increase students' understanding of contextual learning. The success factor in achieving the goals for innovative learning is the collaboration and active role of all parties in the world of education to support teachers in carrying out learning in accordance with the 21st century. So that SMAN 3 KABUPATEN TANGERANG teachers have succeeded in motivating students to carry out fun learning learning in the learning model integrated learning. This is evidenced by the results of a survey of students 76.5% felt very happy and 23.5% felt happy.
