Formula E is a one-seat car automotive sports championship that uses electric power. This championship idea was first explored by FIA President Jean Todt and Alejandro Agag who themselves are also the founders and chief executives of Formula E Holdings. Its first championship was held in Beijing, China, in September 2014. Since 2020, the Formula E Championship has gained the status of a world championship.
Recently, Indonesian people have been busy discussing Formula E which will be held in Jakarta. This reaps many pros and cons. The latest news is that the Formula E Jakarta 2022 organizing committee did not hold a convoy of electric car racers at the National Monument or commonly called MONAS which is located in Central Jakarta because of problems with the technical rules of Formula E Operation (FEO).
Some people think that holding the Formula E championship event is not right because the name Formula E itself is less well known than the Formula 1 championship event. Not only that, people also think that holding a Formula E championship in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic is also considered unethical, because holding a championship big like Formula E is not cheap. Although the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia seems to have improved, there are still many people who are affected by Covid-19 whose economy has not improved.
Supposedly the costs incurred to organize this Formula E championship could be diverted and prioritized for those affected by Covid-19. However, there are also some people who agree with the holding of the Formula E championship, especially for the people who love car racing. They are looking forward to this Formula E championship. With the holding of this Formula E championship, it can open up opportunities for other car racing events in Indonesia.
