England, Germany, and Denmark have threatened to leave FIFA over the ban on the One Love LGBT campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Â The Football Association (FA) says FIFA is silent on the human rights of LGBT during the 2022 World Cup.
Denmark will also hold talks with other European countries (UEFA) regarding the possibility of leaving FIFA.
Ahead of Qatar's 2022 World Cup, seven countries wrote to FIFA explaining their wish for their captain to wear an armband emblazoned with 'One Love,' in support of LGBTQIA+ rights, during the 32-nation tournament.
FIFA banned it. Likewise Qatar. The captain of the England national team, Harry Kane, who was originally going to keep wearing it no matter what FIFA said, finally canceled wearing the LGBT captain's armband.
That changed ahead of England's opening game, against Iran last Monday, with FIFA claiming that any player wearing the captain's armband would either be booked or potentially face a tougher sanction.
Danish FA (DBU) chairman Jesper Moller has revealed he is ready to enter into talks with UEFA's other 55 member nations about a possible exit from FIFA.
"This is not a decision to be made now. We've known this for a long time. We have been discussing it in the Nordic region since August," said Moller.
Germany is another team angry that FIFA decided there will be penalties for wearing the LGBT captain's armband after the tournament started. The 2014 World Cup winner has threatened legal action against the organization, questioning whether FIFA's actions were lawful.
If UEFA countries leave FIFA, automatically member countries in Europe cannot participate in official FIFA competitions such as the World Cup, both at the international and club level, then in all age groups, both men's and women's football.
That makes it possible that the world football party will only be attended by countries of North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania or countries that are FIFA members.
