Earth comes to an end,
Save it my friends!
Pollution is going on,
In every city, village and town.
Stop this ghost of pollution,
There are many solutions.
Do not pollute; water and air,
Don't throw garbage, here and there.
You can do something now, or never,
Let's save Our Earth forever!Â
Save Environment is a poem written by Shivangi Gupta. The date of publication, October 2016. The poem tells about saving the earth by convincing and educate the consciousness of the reader, especially children to have some concerns that the place we live together is already dying. The environment where we in is now polluting which is caused by us, we pollute it with garbage and with many kinds of risk actions that lead to putting the earth in danger. So that, this poet uses her work as a form of literary criticism but in a way that persuades the reader and making them realize to save the environment.
The poem, Save Environment is the type of poem that calls a Ghazal. As in Ghazal, the poem has five stanzas and each stanza consists of two lines or in the other word is a couplet. The lines have the same number of syllables, both lines of the couplets end with a similar sound. In addition, to enhance the meaning, in the third couplet first line, "Stop this ghost of pollution," the word "ghost" is a visual of imagery which means the poet uses the kind of language to describe the bad pollution. As her intentions to deliver the feeling to the audience successfully, Shivangi uses figurative language that is a metaphor that can take the senses of the reader to smoothly understand the work. In the very first line, "Earth comes to an end", the sentence does not actually imply the earth reaches the end but instead only as the effect to compose an ending.
The literary work itself basically urges children to take an action together to salvage the earth. Though the earth is already dying, "There are many solutions" line six strongly suggests that the problem can be fixed. The fourth couplet comes with the settling "Do not pollute; water and air"/ "Do not throw garbage, here and there" which is simply an action to do. That is why, the poet proposes in the last couplet, "You can do something now, or never, / "Let's save our Earth forever!" insinuate that in the cooperation to early prevention could solve the problem.
Apart from structural meaning and literary devices above, Literary work is important in protecting nature. As a matter of fact that literature has been doing its duty in healing the environment. Interestingly, nature is a favorite subject that anyone can get inspired to telling their poem. Otherwise, literature always treats nature in many various ways such form of criticism but poetically. The idea can easily understand and provoke bravery in the people who may read, especially the children. So does this Save Environment, a poem that is not just a poem but very critical to enhance the awareness and concern for the environment. Simply, this literary work is reflecting Ecocriticism which tells the relationship between humans and nature.
