In the present era, along with the increasing number of transmission of the Covid-19 virus, in addition to implementing 2W1M (washing hands, wearing masks, and maintaining distance) in daily activities, giving vaccines to the community is considered very necessary in order to reduce the transmission rate of the virus.

But the question is, is the vaccine halal to use? In addition, is the vaccine safe for the community? considering the amount of news circulating that vaccines are dangerous, vaccines cause a person to get sick and even lose their lives, and many more, causing some people to be reluctant and afraid to get vaccinated.

Responding to the problem above, for that in this article, we will raise the issue of whether the vaccine is halal and safe to use. We will focus on this issue with the AstraZeneca Vaccine. If you look at the ingredients used in its manufacture, this AstraZeneca vaccine contains pork trypsin that is inserted into it. MUI also issued a fatwa that this vaccine is forbidden to use, but even so, the MUI stated that the vaccine could still be used because it was an emergency.

In addition, according to the East Java Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management (PWNU) the pork trypsin used in the manufacture of the vaccine is only a catalyst in breeding the Corona Virus. The unclean and unclean elements of the pig enzyme are mixed, so they think that this vaccine is lawful to use. It was also approved by the East Java MUI which said that the use of the vaccine was halal.

Apart from these two differences, in order to preserve human life, the administration of this vaccine is necessary considering Indonesia is currently in a Covid-19 emergency, this is based on the argument

"Whoever is forced (to eat) while he does not want it and does not (also) exceed the limit, then there is no sin for him. Verily Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Q.S al-Baqarah: 173)

"And why do you not want to eat of what (when slaughtered) is called the name of Allah, even though Allah has made it clear to you what He has forbidden you, unless you are forced to." (Surah al-An'am: 119)

In addition to halal-haram, the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine has also been suspended. That's because there are cases of blood clots after vaccination (this case occurs in other countries). In addition to doubts about its efficacy, news that there were victims who died after being vaccinated and severe symptoms experienced by the elderly, BPOM didn’t recommend the use of this type of vaccine in Indonesia during the testing period.

The results of the evaluation of safety efficacy based on data from public trials submitted overall administration of 2 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine with an interval of 8 to 12 weeks in a total of 23,745 subjects was safe and well tolerated.Based on an evaluation of the data on the safety efficacy and quality of the vaccine, the Spokesperson for Covid-19 Vaccination of BPOM Lucia Rizka Andalusia said that BPOM had issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) approval on February 22, 2021 with EUA number 215810143A1.
