The spoke person of health ministry, Mohammad Syahril has announced that there were new subvariant of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 detected in Indonesia. Four cases had been found in Bali. The new subvariant of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 have infected 1 local people, and 3 foreigners. All these people infected were delegations of The Global Platform Disaster Risk and Reduction in Bali on 23-28 May 2022. The Covid-19 task force already managed to avoid the virus from spreading.
This first founding of the new subvariant of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 case has been handled quickly. The seven infected patients are now being quarantined in Bali. The patients who are infected by the new subvariant of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 show from mild to no symptoms such as cold, flu, cough, and mild fever. It is informed that all of the patients have all received complete vaccination.
This new subvariant of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 were firstly detected in South Afrika in early 2022. The number of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 cases in South Africa are growing and making the country the dominating area for the new subvariant of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5. Moreover, the subvariant of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 have surpassed the number of the subvariant of omicron BA.1 and BA.2 in South Africa.
The Indonesian government is planning to get the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine due to these new subvariants of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 which are suggested to be the cause of the increase of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia recently. It is reported up to 15 June 2022, the number of covid-19 cases in Indonesia have reached 1.242.Â
The covid-19 spoke person said in February 2022 that the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine is now being considered to be given to people. However, the exact time for the fourth dose of Covid-19 was not mentioned. The ministry of health and Covid-19 task force are still waiting for the result of evaluation before giving the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccination. According to the ministry of health that the fourth dose of vaccine will be given after the first booster vaccination program has reached the target.
