Imam bitter story was when he set off with his head Trinidad Tobago. Because Priest and all his friends could not speak English, he looked around and get lost for eight hours at Schipol Airport, Amsterdam, Netherlands. "We all can not speak English," he said. He suspected, because of the language barrier, they were so soft ssaran slavery.

For example, Imam two years working at sea. His ship never lean over it. Similarly, the wage of US $ 180 they are entitled to, he never got. Ship owners then abandoned them floating in the waters of Trinidad Tobago in 2013. They were eventually rescued after six months floats on the sea.

There are about 262 thousand crew of Indonesian citizens working abroad based on data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted by Overseas Indonesian Workers Union (SPILN). About 77% work on board fishing vessels, and they are scattered in Asia Pacific, South America and Africa. The rest go to sea along a cargo ship (6.57%), cruises (6.80%), tankers (0.68%), and a tugboat (8.84%). (See Infographics: The Slave Ship Itinerary Hell)

Imam, and a number of their fellow former crew dispatched by PT Karltigo, never bring an action against this problem. They demanded the intermediary company and the case was brought to the West Jakarta District Court.

The court held from late 2013 until early 2014. At the trial it was revealed that the company was not licensed to dispatch sailors. In fact, a witness from the Ministry of Transportation in a statement during the hearing said that the seaman book brought slaves from Indonesia was false.

A story about slavery in the fishing vessel was raised again after the news about the crew from Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam in Benjina, Aru Islands, Maluku. Bambang, Imam and his fellow crew members from Indonesia on foreign vessels is similarly threatened his life.

How Easy Being Slaves in Foreign Ships

His name is Imam Shafi'i. He was 29 years old man from Tegal, Central Java. To get around life, Imam used to work as a security guard, motorcycle taxi drivers, construction workers, wet fish sales, to trade water using a wheelbarrow in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

"One day around 2011, I returned to the village and met with an acquaintance, maze name," said Imam who met CNN Indonesia, last April. "He offered me to work abroad, American said."

At that time the priest thought maze bid just gibberish. How could he just having junior high school diploma can work abroad. while English just do not understand anything, other than the words "I Love You". "But when the maze says it's not impossible, as long as there are willing and money to make passports and other documents," Imam said quoting maze to him.

Maze, according to Imam story, then describes how he dispatched those abroad. Interestingly, he added, maze only mentions the figure of Rp 800 thousand to the requirements set out for America. "I do not have any money, but I promised maze to talk to the family," said Imam replied maze challenge. (See Focus: Slaves Indonesia on Foreign Ships)
