The habit of Indonesians in reading is still very low. Indonesia ranks third lowest in the ASEAN region and is above Cambodia. This condition is very worrying.

Referring to the survey results of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2011, the index of the reading level of the Indonesian people is only 0.001 percent.

That is, there is only one person out of 1000 residents who still 'want' to read books seriously (high). This condition places Indonesia in position 124 out of 187 countries in the assessment of the Human Development Index (HDI).

Many factors cause a person's lack of interest in reading, including laziness, watch a lot of TV shows, lack of activities to develop reading interest such as special schedules or plans, and expensive book prices.

The ability to read is an ability that it is very necessary for people who will later be used to be able to understand various information that is read.

The low reading interest of the Indonesian people can be fatal because it can cause the quality and quality of education in Indonesia to also only run in place (stagnant) and tend to retreat.

Increasing people's interest in reading is very important because in addition to having an impact on themselves, this can also have an impact on many people and even countries. A country can progress because of the quality of the people in it.

1. Growing children's interest in reading from an early age

Introduce reading books that interest children such as story books or take the child as often as possible to book centers such as bookstores and libraries and also help children design play activities that involve books, such as making pictorial pieces or series from books, magazines or newspapers. about something such as fruits, animals, and so on can increase interest in reading from an early age.

2. Controlling the use of electronic media such as television, video games, mobile phones, internet. The role of parents and teachers is very much needed in this effort, where teachers and parents work together to provide understanding to students/children about the bad effects of unsupervised use of electronic media that can cause loss of learning time and decreased concentration.

The low interest in reading in Indonesia has a major influence on individuals and other people and even the country. If not addressed immediately this will affect the level of education in our country and even the quality of each individual.
