The Courage of "Budi Darma" to Express Wild Ideas in His Literary Works that have Influenced Other Writers

Yesterday, we participated in the Simposium Nasional Menuju Teori Sastra "Dunia Jungkir Balik Budi Darma" through an online zoom meeting that can be accessed at our respective homes. This activity was held on September 14, 2021 to commemorate 100 days of the passing of a prominent writer in Indonesia who was known as a person who was polite, humble, intelligent, had a unique personality, and was very open to sharing knowledge with others. 

For that, I have a small interview and discuss with one of a participant of this Symposium. She is Keke, one of my partners in State University of Surabaya. From the symposium yesterday She did take a lot of things from the presence of speakers who are also extraordinary Indonesian writers. Even though she didn't attend the entire session, but she listened to this symposium again through the Unesa Official youtube channel, so she could feel a little closer to him.

"In the first session with Mr. Faruk H.T., Mr. Seno Gumira Ajidarma, Ms. Okky Puspa Madasari, and Mr. Suyatno as speakers. From the sources persons and several students who had previously been taught by Mr. Budi Darma, I saw the figure of Mr. Budi Darma as one of the lecturers that I dreamed of," she said.  Mr. Budi Darma was one of teacher with feelings of love, embraces his students, is gentle, loves to share his knowledge, and is very polite. 

But on the other hand, when Mr. Budi started to take a pen to pour out his head and thought, he seemed to be on a different side of a person. For some people, his writings are sometimes said to be strange, absurd, and unreasonable. But I can say that it is a characteristic that exists in every work of Mr. Budi Darma. 

There was a quote conveyed by Mr. Seno Gumir Ajidarma as one of the speakers, he explained that Mr. Budi Darma was a unique and free writer. The process of creativity that is carried out spontaneously shows that "Real writers never have any preparation. However, at the same time, the author also cannot write without preparation." Honestly, this was must be a wonderful quote.

As a young generation, we may not or haven't lived at the time he produced his literary works, but without realizing it we can also enjoy his work and understand his extraordinary ideas and thought. There are so many Indonesian writers who are influenced by Mr. Budi Darma's great works. Even many lecturers at State University of Surabaya told, Mr. Budi is a legend. 

He has uniqueness and characteristics that are usually different from other writers. "Well, as I talked about earlier after I attended this symposium, I was honestly interested in looking for Mr. Budi Darma on the internet. I also discussed earlier, previously one of my lecturers mentioned that Mr. Budi Darma is a very legendary Indonesian litterateur," she said. Mr. Budi Darma was very sharp and outspoken in writing his works. 

Once upon a time, he questioned why the sea was never full. She added, "I think that's the author's obsession, or maybe you could say the intuition that constantly questions things and pushes the author to write. So I could say Mr. Budi is a unique figure. Polite and gentle in personality, but sharp and outspoken when dealing with his pen and work."

It is very interesting indeed if we discuss something from the literary work lens. Everything that is impossible becomes a possibility. All taboos dare to be raised and voiced. Mr. Budi is a polite and gentle person in personality, but sharp and outspoken when dealing with his pen and work. Of course, Mr. Budi Dharma has his own readers and surely many new ideas will be obtained after reading his work. Mr. Faruk H.T., who was also a resource person at the time. He said, "Ide Jungkir-Balik dari Budi Darma itu seperti menjungkirbalikkan konsep realisme dengan filsafat."

 Based on the first essay by Mr. Budi Dharma, literature is an open world of possibilities, where a possibility exists and is not limited by anything. The writing that is made must have a certain meaning and there will be many interpretations that are free to be expressed, so this interpretation will exist after a work is released in the air. Why it can be said that because basically the interpretation will continue to exist and cannot be ended by anyone. 

The more that literary work is enjoyed by people, the more interpretations that arise naturally. Ide Jungkir Balik according to Mr. Faruk, concluded that from Budi Darma's essay, literature will always be discussed because it will always be interpreted and mysterious. He mentioned that the literary works according to Mr. Budi Darma is a form of creativity because it depicts things that have never existed before. But it needs to be underlined as well, someone's work must also be followed by responsibility. Everything that is conveyed must also be accounted for.
